On foot, by bus, by metro, or by bicycle
Lausanne has promoted soft mobility for a number of years and offers local residents and visitors alike a variety of options for getting around by metro, bus, bicycle or on foot.
In just 18 minutes the backbone of the public transport system, Switzerland's first automated metro, the m2, links the south of the city (Ouchy) to the north (Epalinges), an urban transport hub connected to the tl bus network and CFF regional railway services. For motor vehicles, several park and ride (P+R) facilities are situated at the entrance to the town and served by public transport.
It is worth mentioning that every guest staying in Lausanne can benefit from the Lausanne Transport Card, offering unrestricted free travel on the city's public transport (bus, train, metro). This key to the city is issued by the establishment where they are staying.
You can also travel smart by bicycle in Lausanne, by taking public transport to negotiate the steepest hills. The Lausanne Roule association, backed by the City, makes bicycles available to the public free of charge, while other organisations (CFF, shops) hire them out. A pocket guide will give you routes and timetables.
