Lausanne, a city with good taste
Situated in an exceptional setting on the banks of Lake Geneva – the biggest lake in Europe – and at the gateway to the Alps, Lausanne is a city where the term “gastronomy” is not an empty word. As can be seen by the record number of award-winning and acclaimed restaurants, which have earned it a reputation far beyond the country's borders.
Like any visitor, you will be able to try the local produce and specialities: fillets of perch or char from Lake Geneva, “papet” vaudois (sausage with cabbage and leeks) and, of course, fondue, gâteau à la raisinée, tarts and specialities made with Swiss chocolate. But Lausanne is also a wine-producing town thanks to the five prestigious estates it owns, most notably in Lavaux, a unique terraced vineyard and a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site.
