Marius Daniel Popescu’s Recommendations
In autumn 2007, he published “La Symphonie du Loup” (Robert Walser Prize) in Paris through the prestigious publisher José Corti, an autobiographical novel that depicts daily life under the dictatorship of Ceausescu.
He had already published a collection in 1995 through Antipode, called “4x4: poèmes tout-terrains”, then “Arrêts Déplacés” in 2004 with the same publisher. Since August 2004, he has published and been the sole editor of Le Persil, a quarterly magazine. You should know that Marius Daniel Popescu, initially interested in becoming a forest engineer, fled Romania out of love in 1990 to rebuild his life in Lausanne, where he works as a bus driver for TL.
“The sight of Lake Geneva is a source of energy for your eyes. I love to breathe in its smell, listen to its motion, sense others feeding off its beauty…”
For you, Lausanne is
The city of my life, both literally and figuratively. In this city I have my in-laws, lots of friends and lots of acquaintances. I work on the bus routes of Lausanne, driving people through the city and the surrounding area. This is the city that has trained me as a Westerner and a French language writer. It inspires me in the smallest details. I live fully in its people and its locations. Lausanne is the city of my rebirth.
The shores of Lake Geneva I love the lakeside, especially when my wife, two daughters and I feed bread to the birds. The sight of Lake Geneva is a source of energy for your eyes. I love to breathe in its smell, listen to its motion, sense others feeding off its beauty and its strength, which mirrors that of the nearby mountainsfrémissements, sentir les autres s’alimenter de sa beauté, de sa force qui égale celle des montagnes qui ne sont pas loin.
The P’tit Central For its intimacy, décor and lunch menu, its oysters and its heated terrace in winter. And the service.
Café Romand For its size, its customers of all ages from all over the world, its local dishes, its “veteran” waitresses and the din of all the voices during peak hours, when you can no longer find a seat. You have to make a reservation, especially to eat.
Buffet de la Gare, 1re classe For people watching, the decor, the service and the “neutrality” of this restaurant, where travellers and regulars mix.
