Sabrina Abalo, student
‘Lausanne is always growing, broadening its horizons, welcoming new people. You soon feel at home here.’
Why did you choose to study in Lausanne?
SA | I had been living in Lausanne for a year. I felt at home here so I chose to study here. I wanted to spread my wings beyond the little canton of Tessin where I grew up.
What were your first impressions when you arrived in Lausanne?
SA | I found a dynamic city. It's always on the move, it's open, full of students, and it offers plenty of opportunities in terms of training, culture and entertainment. It's a great quality that other Swiss towns simply don't have.
Where did you study before starting a course of higher education in Lausanne?
SA | I did a six-month work placement in Fribourg as part of my final year at a school specialising in health and social professions (Ecole Spécialisée en Santé et Social -SSPSS) in Canobbio, Tessin.
If you had to define the study environment in Lausanne in just three words, what would they be?
SA | Solidarity, entertainment, multiculturalism.
Can you tell us about any memorable events you have experienced during your studies?
SA | It was the amazement of my friends when they found out that I came from Tessin. They couldn't understand my decision to leave my canton to pursue a course of training that was available locally.
What are you planning to do after your studies?
SA | I hope to enjoy pursuing my studies as much as I do at the moment, pass all my exams and learn lots more about life here in Lausanne.
Will you stay in Lausanne after finishing your studies if you have the opportunity to do so? And if so, why?
SA | I think I'll stay in Lausanne or in French-speaking Switzerland, mainly because the social sector is highly developed here and I've fallen in love with the city.
Would you recommend Lausanne as a town in which to start your higher education?
SA | Absolutely! Lausanne is always growing, broadening its horizons, welcoming new people. You soon feel at home here.
And your fondest memory of Lausanne?
SA | Celebrating my birthday with the friends I've met here.
