Marche Romande du Général Guisan
Organised by the Lausanne NCO Association, the Western Switzerland General Guisan March is being held for the 41st time .
This sporting event has been transformed over the course of the years. Originally created to commemorate General Henri Guisan (1874-1960), the Western Switzerland March instigated by Div Méc 1 joined with the March in Memory of General Guisan to become the Western Switzerland General Guisan March.
The march is held on a weekend in mid-June every year. It is open to everyone (civilians and military). It is not a competition with rankings, but each walker (individuals, families, groups) can choose from six distances: 7 km for families and children, 10 km, 16 km, 20 km, 30 km and 40 km. The central point of departure and arrival is in the Great Hall (Grande Salle) in Mézières, the birthplace of General Guisan.
The participants choose whether they want to cover one of the routes on the Saturday or the Sunday and can do so between 07.00 and 14.00. Many of the urban dwellers walking the different routes will discover the District of Oron region. The various routes on offer pass through 19 communes.
