Running and walking in Lausanne
Running as an endurance sport has been part of the Olympic Games since ancient times. Lausanne has supported sporting events of this nature for many years. Walking and its cousin Nordic walking – walking with the aid of special poles – are younger disciplines enjoying an upsurge in popularity.
In Lausanne it is possible to practise these sports more or less anywhere, but especially at two sites where infrastructure is provided for the public. All the information you need on these places can be found below.
Pierre-de-Coubertin – Stadium
If you wish to run or walk from the Pierre-de-Coubertin stadium, you can use the athletics track (if it is free), skirt the edge of the lake, follow the 4 km de Lausanne (signposted annually) or the Chemin du sport (Sports Track) signs, or even join the Vidy parcoursvita trail.
Mauverney Sports Centre
If you wish to run or walk from Mauvernay Sports Centre, you can follow one of three measured routes (3.1, 7.5 and 12 km), or create your own itinerary as you wish in the magnificent Jorat forest.
