Towards Sustainable MobilityFor many years, the Municipality of Lausanne has wanted to limit the predominance of automobiles in the area within the city, while supporting access to businesses. By decreasing the time limit for public parking, it encourages commuters to opt for park and ride services (P+R), located at the entrances to the city.
This policy requires that available public transportation is strengthened, in tandem with the introduction of the m2 metro in 2008.
The individual driver is therefore encouraged to use other ways of getting around: the train, the metro, the bus, a bicycle (including electric bicycles), carpooling, car sharing, and even, quite simply, walking!
Mobility and Sustainable Development
Our daily actions are still too dependent upon a particular way of getting around: motorized personal transport, which contributes to the depletion of fossil fuels and adds to climatic problems.
A better alternative is to choose a form of sustainable mobility, one that uses human energy – walking, cycling, etc. – and the public transport network, to spare natural resources, decrease air pollution, and also to preserve our health! |
Lausanne opts for diversity: metro, bus, bicycle, walking, etc. |
Carpooling, an effective measure | | Mobility Administration PlanWith its Business Mobility Plan (BMP), the City hopes to set an example to lead the way for businesses located within the community land. Various measures (public transportation, car sharing, carpooling, parking in the private community area, etc.) encourage a more sustainable and gentle mobility from those in its administration.
By targeted initiatives, a business mobility plan will improve the quality of life for all of the city’s users, by decreased traffic during rush hour, fewer disturbances, better sharing of public space, and financial benefits for everyone!
