Green Tourism in Lausanne’s Heritage

The City of Lausanne wishes to highlight its agricultural, wine-making, and forestry heritage and to revitalize it thanks to visits from the people of Lausanne.
Inns, barns and wine-growing areas are scattered throughout the City’s property. Farmers and winemakers work and live there. Several rural buildings have been renovated in order to preserve the agricultural infrastructure, the quality of life among producers, and to welcome the public, in terms of lodging and restoration, etc.

Rooms and Tables

Three wineries offer rooms or tables, reception lounges, and spaces designed for tasting and selling their wines: the Château Rochefort in Allaman, the Domaine du Burignon in Saint-Saphorin and the Abbaye de Mont in Mont-sur-Rolle.
Since 1996, Lausanne’s wineries have been involved in integrated agriculture production, with respect to the environment.

The Chalet-des-Enfants

Among the agricultural properties, the Chalet-des-Enfants, with its renovated inn and its rustic menu, is a perfect entry point into the Jorat forests and the centre of the City’s green tourism network. This friendly place will welcome families and school groups, and it will inform visitors about the City’s green, cultural, and historic heritage and introduce them to the products of the Lausanne region (wine, cheese, wood, etc.). For those would like to surf the web, a Wi-Fi hotspot is available.

The Future Peri-Urban Park

Lausanne’s forests are very popular and have experienced deterioration such as soil erosion, decreased animal life, and a regeneration problem.
The creation of a "peri-urban natural park" among Jorat’s forests will make it possible to conserve the forest’s natural resources, support the forest economy, and welcome the public wishing to discover the area’s beauty and natural richness.

So that everyone has access to the pedestrian trails within the Jorat, a new bus line between Chalet-à-Gobet and Cugy, the "chalet line", ran every Sunday this summer until October 22, 2006.
