Ancien Régime

The 18^th century brought architectural renewal to Lausanne. A small group of local architects, including De Crousaz, Fraisse and Delagrange, were responsible for reconstructing public infrastructure. Following the ideal of a new return to nature, near the city the aristocracy built numerous “campagnes”, a typical local name for country mansions with rural estates. Today these buildings are part of the urban fabric.
