Maurice Béjart takes his final bow 

It is with deep sorrow that the Fondation Béjart Ballet Lausanne and the City of Lausanne announce the death of

Maurice Béjart

on November 22, 2007, after several weeks of hospitalization in Lausanne.

We are losing a choreographer who profoundly revolutionized 20th-century dance and the founder and head of a world-renowned dance company and school. He proudly directed the same company, under diverse names, for 50 years without interruption.

Many dancers are losing a father, a mentor and a source of inspiration.

We are all losing a great friend, an exceptionally prodigious creator and a visionary and humanistic artist.

We are immensely saddened and yet grateful to Maurice Béjart for the inestimable treasure that he has given us.

We offer our respectful and fraternal condolences to his family and close friends.
