It’s sure to be a great party!

It is 17 years since the City of Lausanne inaugurated its last metro line, the m1. The end is now in sight for the construction of the m2, and federal, cantonal and communal authorities and their partners will gather on 18 September to inaugurate Switzerland's first automated metro line, the m2, which will change everyday life for many people in the Vaud region.

A very official Place de la Riponne

Whilst Federal Councillor Mr. Moritz Leuenberger and an official delegation will be taking the metro from Epalinges to Riponne, local people are invited to the square of the same name to watch the inauguration ceremony from 3:00pm.

Starting then, spectators will be able to enjoy a clever blend of artistic creations and official speeches. Highlights will include two processions by children from the City of Lausanne to symbolise a “mini m2”, the creation of the m2 logo by performance artist Franck Bouroulec, dancers from Martin’s Taps Dance Company, and so on.

The City of Lausanne will be providing a large aperitif for all those present once the official part is over, at around 5:30pm.

Then, from 6:45pm, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and students from both the Lausanne Conservatoire and the Rudra Béjart studio workshop will perform in succession at Place de la Riponne.

Street entertainment

There will be a variety of events in the square and adjoining streets throughout the afternoon:

• five characters in costumes symbolising the epic history of the m2 will mingle with the crowd. They will perform and engage with the public by describing the construction of the metro.
• a colourful group, "Clique sur mer" will roam around and fill the streets with innovative sounds.
• “Living sculptures” will offer spectators an unusual and humorous tableau.
