The Vuachère trail

The Vuachère river has its origin on the outskirts of the city. A simple, bucolic stream at its source, it then criss-crosses the countryside, cutting out deep channels in the molasse.

Meandering delightfully here and there, it becomes a peaceful waterway before ending in the lake. Wild, yet passing through the whole city, the Vuachère is the only forested corridor linking the lake with the heights above the city. Its Celtic origins, when it was still known as “Nant”, lend the river a force of character that perfectly capture the personality of the fox. And this valley certainly boasts plenty of foxes. They will be our guide as we follow the tracks of the fox and embark on an unusual walk.

The Vuachère trail sometimes utilises pavements and footpaths, sometimes narrow and steep forest descents, crossing the river by footbridges and stairways. To follow this trail, look out for the wooden markers which map its course as it crosses the main streets and follow the footprints left by the fox on the ground indicating the direction to take at each crossroads. Information panels at regular intervals describe the river and highlight special features of the flora, geological curiosities, animals to spot, a site of particular architectural interest or the history of the place.
