Each annual event has its special day and its distinctive character: and on Monday 21 June, music will fill the squares, churches, clubs and cafés of Lausanne with 1100 musicians of every genre. The Music Festival is primarily a great people’s festival celebrating music on the summer solstice, whatever the day of the week, just as in hundreds of towns throughout Europe and the world. Now in its 16th year, the Lausanne Musical Festival will pick up the pace from 5pm as people leave their offices, with an official after-work event at Zen’Kâ (rue de Genève). A series of concerts will take place on the 5 open-air stages until 12.30am and in about 28 indoor venues, some lasting until the small hours... As part of the European Music Festival, Lausanne will present four groups from Belgium, Greece and Italy, with the bonus of a special “Francophone Summit” stage in Place Arlaud. European exchanges: The Belgian poetry slam artist Ed WydeE at 8pm in Place Arlaud, the Roman duo Eleonora Kojucharov and Enrico Barbieri at 8pm at the Conservatoire de Lausanne, the hip hop group Masta Pi at 8.45pm in Esplanade du Flon and the Greek rock group Cyanna at 9.30pm in Place Centrale. Your festival guide: the programme is now categorised by musical style; a timetable also presents all the concerts by location. Meanwhile, for iPhone fanatics, a special “Lausanne Music Festival” application will soon be available from App Store! Have a bite to eat: Catering areas and bars will be open from 5pm to 12.30am in Place Arlaud, Place de la Palud, Rue de la Louve, Place Pépinet, Place Centrale, Place de l’Europe and Esplanade du Flon. | | Menu
