Samuel Mathiss – Fractopierre
Stones within stones within stones within a stone: this sculpture uses the technique of mise en abyme (embedding a copy of the work within itself), allowing the material to provide both the detail and the whole. Waiting patiently on one side of this small square, the sculpture invites us to stop and look, to touch it and climb it, and to imagine what it would be like to be made of stone.
